We, the members of the Music
Teachers' Association of California, having dedicated ourselves to the
advancement of the standards in music education shall
- maintain
the
highest moral standards and conduct toward colleagues, students and the
community

participate in the
activities of the Association
- respect
the dignity
and work of our colleagues
- develop
and
maintain a professional relationship between teachers and students

encourage, guide
and develop students toward fulfillment of their musical potential
-
participate in and encourage students to be involved in community music
activities

Therefore, it shall be unethical
for a teacher or an institution
- to do
personal proselytizing of
students from the classes of others
- to
present any student as one's own
until after an enrollment of six months, unless by consent of the
former teacher
- to
accept a pupil if aware of an
unresolved indebtedness to a former teacher
- to
disparage the work of a colleague
- to make
specific promises and hold
out illusory hopes to students
